Two weeks before the Smog Free Locomotion Day event in Berkeley, Ecology Action released a press statement describing the planned activities for the event. The “smog free locomotion” parade — a parade that featured transportation modes that did not release automobile exhaust into the atmosphere — was set to include “electric cars, steam cars, feet, bicycles, horses, wagons, rollerskates, wheelbarrows, and anything else the human mind may design.”

The parade would conclude at noon at Civic Center (Provo) Park, and would be followed by six hours of festivities, with performances by the bands Joy of Cooking, Lazarus, Ozone West and Backwater Rising.

The press release is also notable for featuring, on the left margin, a list of advisors to Ecology Action—a group which includes social scientists (a historian, an anthropologist) as well as many scientists (a biochemist, a geneticist, a microbiologist, and so on). Below the list of advisors is a list of affiliated groups, which includes Berkeley’s Migrant Theater and Stanford’s Population & Environment Forum.
