The slogan on this flyer — “Prevent, by political and direct action, the destruction of human and natural resources” — encapsulates well the operating principles behind Ecology Action, as well as its sense of the stakes for the planet as a whole.
The figure, which appears in other forms on other Ecology Action materials, seems indebted to earlier Meso-American styles of drawing, and may reflect Cliff Humphrey’s argument that other cultures had recognized better the principles of interdependence that were necessary to promote life.
In this image, the figure is weighing in the balance on the one side a pollution-producing factory and, on the other, rolling plains. The plains are tipping the balance, just barely.
