After five years of submitting grant applications and having them consistently rejected, Pacific Center was awarded much needed funding from the United Way in 1978 — a monumental achievement. The Executive Director of the Pacific Center at the time, Carole Migden, had feuded with the fundraising agency over accusations of funding discrimination based on the sexual minorities that the center serves.
