The Pacific Center didn’t hesitate when the AIDS crisis took hold of the Bay Area, jumping in right away and developing various types of services and programs for those who struggled with the illness and their families. While there was certainly funding coming in from various organizations and personal donors, at a time of such dire straits, it wasn’t enough. By the late 1980s, the center was scraping by and sustaining itself largely through its volunteers.
