Jeff Gerth—later a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter for the New York Times—furnished this nuanced analysis of how, even though the struggle of Berkeley’s Third World Liberation Front had grown out of the struggle of the San Francisco State’s TWLF, the struggles and the counter-responses they provoked had diverged.
