Parallel to the NPO was the 1974 Landmarks Preservation Ordinance, which sought to identify buildings of particular historical and aesthetic value in Berkeley for protection. Once the ordinances passed, LPO activists formed the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association, which publishes a newsletter, arranges tours, and has conducted exhaustive surveys of Berkeley buildings. This page from a 1977 edition of the B.A.H.A. newsletter points out that the NPO was emulated in San Antonio and New Orleans, next to an article about ongoing zoning issues.
