The document is the first page of the meeting minutes of a Friends of the Asian Library (FAL) general meeting. The meeting minutes are also covered by undated sticky notes that label and give directions for library staff to archive the meeting minutes document.

The most fascinating aspect of these minutes is the section on the “Coalition for Chinatown Development”. FAL members were urged to attend Coalition meetings so that the Asian Community Library would be a stakeholder in the plans for the area’s development. As a resource for the Chinatown community, the FAL wanted the library to be looped into the conversation about redevelopment.

The meeting was conducted in 1985, four years after the library’s relocation to 9th and Broadway. It was not until 1995 that the Asian Community Library moved to its current, much more spacious home in the Pacific Renaissance Plaza.
