Jeanne Rose is best known for turning out unique bespoke clothing for San Francisco rockstars. Above is an image of Peter Albin, the guitarist of Big Brother & The Holding Company. Though she dressed many different bands of the era, Rose worked very closely with members of Big Brother & the Holding Company and Jefferson Airplane. In this image, Albin wears what Jeanne called the “Dr. Strange Cape.” This piece features an exaggerated collar and gold braid detailing down the front. Jeanne used gold trim to embellish garments for men and women alike. Once she had established her own label in San Francisco, band members would call her up and ask her for to make them a custom garment.

“When I was working, the bands did not want their clothes to be worn by somebody, else of course. When the Jefferson Airplane found me which was very, very early on in my career, they pretty much hired me full time. So I ended up— I’d had all these bands that I made things for and then I ended up— within two years, I only made clothes for the Jefferson Airplane.”
