Like many photographs from Rag Theater, this Nacio Jan Brown image captures the energy just outside the Caffe Med.

Here we see two kids cruising the Ave, riding back to back, seemingly burdened by little in the way of possessions. The image captures two ways of living on the Ave: being on the move, and being planted in place.

Fascinatingly, on a formal level, the people on the move — the two kids on the bike — are in clear focus, while the people who are planted are blurry. This quality suggests that Nacio Jan Brown was on the move with the kids.

There are many photos in Rag Theater of people on bicycles and motor bikes, and in fact this image is counterpointed with another, of two African-American men with their motorcycles.
