An East Bay antiwar coalition proclaimed October 16-20, 1967 “Stop the Draft Week” and staged large-scale protests surrounding the Oakland Army Induction Center, with the intention to shut down its operations.
The protests grew in scope over the course of the week — from 3000 protesters on the first day to over 10,000 protesters by week’s end — even as Oakland police suppressed the protests with force.
