Above is a map from a campus survey included in the 1976 UC Berkeley report, Identification of Architectural Barriers and Other Environmental Hazards to Physically Handicapped People.

The map assessed various slopes on campus to determine whether they were accessible for people in wheelchairs and folks with limited mobility, and discovered that very few were.

Keep in mind that by today’s ADA standards, sidewalks or pathways must have a running slope no greater than 5%. Note that virtually all of the common routes include slopes that are nearly impossible to navigate in a wheelchair, and the several pathways blocked off to wheelchair users by steps.
