The Great American String Band was another one of Jerry’s amazingly talented outfits. This one blended rock, folk, bluegrass, jazz, and blues in non-conventional ways, often mixing between these styles within one song. It seems there was a romantic attraction to 1920’s and 1930’s style and music during the 1970’s. Once can find many flyers, posters, menus, and other advertisements that have 20’s or 30’s style lettering and graphics on them. Similarly Garcia and the Great American String Band payed covers of old Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli songs from that era. The Great American String Band introduced many rock ‘n’ roll fans to other important forms of American music.
