This article is one that Beth Elliott herself wrote for The Lesbian Tide, presumably in her role as their San Francisco contact. As the article is from 1972, it would come from her tenure as the Vice President of the San Francisco chapter of the lesbian group Daughters of Bilitis. This is yet another example of Beth Elliott’s commitment to lesbian activism, as well as trans activism, despite what her later detractors argued.

In the article, she complains that the Democratic presidential candidate, George McGovern, backed out of support for a plank of a Democratic Party platform that would support gay rights. Trans rights would presumably have been regarded as off the table at the time. While McGovern withdrew support in hopes of enhancing his reelection chances, clearly it wasn’t enough.
